Palo Alto Networks® (NYSE: PANW), the network security company™, today announced that SPAR Austria Group, one of the most renowned grocery store chains in Austria, has selected and deployed Palo Alto Networks security platforms to identify, control, and safely enable applications on their network.

“Palo Alto Networks technology enables us to accurately identify and control applications by user, scan content to stop threats in real time, and prevent data leakage. The Company’s next generation firewalls help us to create granular, mission-relevant security policies and safely control applications, instead of the ‘block all-or-nothing’ approach offered by traditional port-blocking devices,” Christian Brennsteiner, Technology Architect of SPAR Austria Group.

SPAR Austria originally aimed to acquire and implement a stateful inspection firewall solution. However, after evaluating and testing various firewall platforms, the Palo Alto Networks next generation security platform emerged as the clear choice because of the traffic shaping and logging capabilities, as well as the integrated URL-filtering, antivirus and IDP security functions, that eliminate the need for several additional security solutions.  Also highly valued by the SPAR security team are the potential to create policies based on applications and the quality of the reporting.

The deployment, which consists of PA 5050 firewalls at the Internet gateway and the datacenter, filters 2 Terabytes of traffic on a daily basis.
